Fly Fishing Features and Functions

Machined Rigid Frame : Okuma's Machined Rigid Frame construction incorporates a one-piece fully machined aluminum frame. These rigid bar-stock aluminum frames are the ultimate in precision alignment and tolerances withstanding more pressure and torque than any other material used in our industry for frame materials. Okuma features these anodized frames on fly reels, baitcast reels, lever drag reels and star drag trolling reels.

ALC : AlumiLite construction incorporates Okuma's new aluminum body technology on both spinning and bait casting reels. Aluminum frames are very rigid and can withstand tremendous amounts of pressure and torque. These frames also provide for precise tolerances between moving parts for ultimate smoothness and durability.

Drag Free Retrieval : The Drag Free Retrieval system allows anglers to crank freely with no resistance by utilizing our corrosion resistant stainless steel roller bearing. This is a one-way roller bearing so the spool is only engaged in one direction. As soon as you spin the handle backwards you have instant drag engagement. By reversing this bearing in the spool, you can quickly change the handle retrieve direction.

Rulidium : This proprietary drag material offers a wide range in drag adjustment with precise high and low settings. These super smooth Rulidium washers reduce heat and friction for maximum performance. These washers can be found on certain Okuma star drag and baitcasting reels.

Waterproof Drag : The Waterproof Drag is a design incorporated on certain Okuma fly reels. This drag system is 100% waterproof and is protected by several oil retaining O-rings. This system is maintenance free and should only be opened by an Okuma Technician.
Cork Drag System Cork Drag System : A multi-disk cork and stainless steel drag system is one of the smoothest combinations we have found for our Okuma fly reels. These multi-disk cork drag washers are lightly coated with Teflon based drag grease to reduce friction and improved smoothness.

Standard Spool Standard Spool : The standard fly reel spool design is simply a traditional style spool. This spool will feature a deep arbor so you can get plenty of backing to compliment your fly line. Standard style spools will usually he on more compact reels because the overall spool diameters are not as large as the large arbor style reels. These reels usually features an adjustable drag system or a traditional click and pawl style drag.

Mid Arbor Mid Arbor : The Mid Arbor spool design has recently gained enormous popularity among fly fisherman. This style spool is a great compromise between a large arbor and a standard arbor design. Anglers can take advantage of the oversized multi-disk drag systems that are mounted through the center of the spool arbor, yet they still get the advantage of a slightly larger diameter spool for line retrieval and additional line capacity.

Large Arbor

Large Arbor : The main advantage to the large arbor spool design is that the overall diameter of the reel is large so you can increase your line retrieval and gain line capacity, due to the increased arbor size. this type of reel would be somewhat comparable to a high-speed gear ratio in a spinning or conventional reel. For anglers targeting larger fish or venturing into saltwater, the large arbor design incorporates a very efficient oversized multi-disk drag system.

Super Large Arbor Super Large Arbor : The super large arbor reel is very much like the larger arbor design, but with an even larger spool diameter. The main purpose for this style reel is for line retrieval. Due to the physical size of the spool and the arbor, angles are able to gain line much faster with each turn of the reel handle. In addition, by maximizing the spool arbor, we are able to use the inner arbor for a larger drag system.
