BY SPECIES
Northwest and Great Lakes salmon trolling can have some dramatic differences. Most often in the Northwest, salmon fishing is one rod per angler. In the Great Lakes it can be as many as three rods per angler. Downriggers are a far larger component of the Great Lakes fishery than in the Northwest. For this Northwest selection, we focus on herring rods for the bays, estuaries and large river fisheries.
